Portage lengths are in metres (1 metre = 3.3 feet or 1.1 yards). Following is a brief description of the routes in the park. Individual canoe route descriptions and maps are available in pdf format in the Maps tab. Consequently, portaging must be done frequently, and the portages can be steep and uneven. ![]() The topography of Lake Superior Provincial Park is rugged. ![]() On the Lower Agawa River and Anjigami River routes only the portions within the park are maintained. There are eight canoe routes in the park, ranging from easy day trips to the 56 km Sand River. Powerboats, including electric motors, are prohibited on all other lakes in the park. Powerboats are allowed on Lake Superior (no motor size restriction) and Sand Lake (motor size 10 hp or less). Spring and fall are good times to watch for migrating species, especially close to Lake Superior. More than 250 bird species have been identified within the park, 120 - 130 of which nest here. Lawrence and boreal forests support a mix of northern and southern species.
